Birmingham's bin strike has been running for more than a year and is weighing heavily on local residents as the city approaches local elections on 7 May. According to BBC News, passengers on the Midlands Metro tram route between Birmingham and Wolverhampton, via West Bromwich, repeatedly raised the dispute as their main concern when asked about issues ahead of polling day.
BBC Radio WM reporter Kathryn Stanczyszyn filmed the conversations for a series of reports ahead of the elections. The footage, published on 19 April, suggests the prolonged disruption to bin collections has become a significant political issue for Birmingham households.
