Dorset Council to change bin collection days for 19,000 homes from late September

BBC News · Dorset · 7 Jul 2026

Residents in Bridport, Lyme Regis and Charmouth, Beaminster, Marshwood Vale, Chesil Bank, and Eggardon are among those whose bin collection day will change after 21 September. Smaller numbers of households in Upwey and Broadwey, Yetminster, Charminster St Mary's, and Winterborne and Broadmayne are also affected. Dorset Council says all affected residents will be notified by letter.

Fortnightly rubbish and recycling collections and weekly food waste collections will continue as before. Different crews may empty bins at different times of day, and the council advises waiting until after 16:00 before reporting a missed collection. Crews may also use a wheelie-bin-style "service bin" to collect food waste or glass.

Garden waste and business collections are largely unaffected. The council says the changes are aimed at improving efficiency and reliability.
