Several councils across England have brought forward bin collection times during the current heatwave, with some crews starting rounds as early as 5am, according to ITV News. Affected areas include Bristol (5am), South Gloucestershire (5.30am), Cheltenham, Somerset, Shropshire and Tendring (all 6am), and Central Bedfordshire (from 6.20am). The earlier starts are intended to protect waste crews from the hottest part of the day.
Residents in affected areas are advised to put bins out the evening before collection day. If your bin has not been collected by the usual time, leave it out, as crews may be running to a different schedule.
The changes are expected to last only for the duration of the hot weather, and more councils could follow if conditions continue. Check your local council's website or social media channels for updates.
