Ipswich Borough Council is introducing a £50 annual charge for fortnightly garden waste collections from April. The brown bin service is currently free, but the council says rising costs have made the charge unavoidable. It will be the last council in Suffolk to introduce such a fee.
According to the BBC, charges elsewhere in the county vary: West Suffolk Council also charges £50, East Suffolk £52.50, Mid Suffolk £62, and Babergh £65 — the highest in Suffolk.
The final free collection will take place in March. Households wishing to subscribe should sign up before 14 March; registering after that date may result in a delay of up to 14 days before a permit arrives. Subscriptions can be arranged through Ipswich Borough Council.
