Warrington launches weekly food waste collections from 31 March

Yahoo · Warrington · 16 Jul 2026

Households in Warrington will have a new bin to put out from 31 March, when the council launches a weekly food waste collection service. Residents are being given a five-litre indoor caddy for the kitchen and a 23-litre outdoor caddy for kerbside collection. The indoor caddy should be lined, filled with food waste, then tied and transferred to the outdoor caddy when full, which is then put out in the same way as other bins.

Delivery teams have already visited all residential properties, according to the council, but anyone who has not received their caddies can report this online. Deliveries to flats and apartments are still under way ahead of the start date. Most Warrington residents will go from two bins to three once the service begins; those who subscribe to green bin collections will have four.

The council says the service fulfils a national government requirement. It is intended to increase recycling rates, cut the cost of disposing of residual waste, and generate green energy. Extra staff are being recruited to run it.
